Another History Has been made by 16yr old girl from Kenya in Marathon

Kenyan athlete Brigid Kosgei on Sunday, October 13, won the Chicago Marathon, women’s race and broke the world record in the process.

The previous record was held by Great Britain’s Paula Radcliffe for 16 years.Kosgei ran a time of 2hours 14 minutes 04 seconds to break the record by over a minute.

The time is set for ratification by IAAF.Kosgei, who won in Chicago last year in 2:18:35 and improved her personal best time to 2 hours 18 mins and 20 seconds.

She beat Ethiopia’s Ababel Yeshaneh who came in a distant second, holding off a fast-finishing Burka as the Ethiopian duo crossed the line in 2:20:51 and 2:20:55 respectively.

Deputy President William Ruto sent out his warm wishes via Twitter, “Hearty congratulations to Brigid Kosgei for setting a new women’s world record and triumphantly defending your 2018 title.”Kenyan athlete, Lawrence Cherono won the men’s race.

Cherono, who was also the winner of this year’s Boston Marathon, won a close men’s contest in 2:05:45.Ethiopia’s Dejene Debela was second in 2:05:46 and Asefa Mengstu was third in 2:05:48.
